Expressive and dynamic is this piece called, Cromatismi:, by the Italian choreographer, Francesco Nappa. Nappa also designed the costumes and composed the musical score. The piece is performed by the Jr. Ballet of Toscana, Florence.
Nappa was initially trained as a dancer at the Napoli Academy of Classical Dance and completed his training at the English National Ballet School. Nappa went on to enjoy a very successful and varied dance career performing with Les Ballet De Monte Carlo, Royal Danish Ballet and the Nederlands dans Theatre. In 2008, he embarked on an independent career, dancing, choreographing, coaching, painting and composing musical scores for his own and other choreographer’s work.
Nappa choreographed Cromatisimi in 2010. The movement language is very much founded upon the European contemporary style. The choreography has an interesting mix of frenetic impulsive action with fluid lyricism. There is a beautiful flowing energy that winds, shifts and propels the dancers through space, onto the floor and to entwine and rebound off each other in beautiful ways. There are some lovely movement sequences that have a seamless organic flow and agile plasticity within the forms the dancers move through.
I also like the costumes, loose yet simple that go well with the movement. The dim soft top lit lighting gives the feeling of a mysterious space in which the dancers move in and out of the shadows, together with the striking “Caravaggio” effect that contrasts the bright light and dark shadows on the dancers moving bodies. It is very effective.
This is a beautiful piece that is well danced and presented
Enjoy and SHARE the expressive movement of these young dancers!
