In this video we change gears and see excerpts of a fairly new ballet called “Gloria” choreographed by Andonis Foniadakis. It is danced by artists of Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve.
Here we have a wonderful example of how contemporary ballet can create visually rich images while abounding with such free and seamless movement. The dancing is fantastic! The choreography is danced with abandoned lightness and fluidity while retaining an expressive elegance. The lightness and unceasing flow of energy remind me of the same joy and energy from an early work of Paul Taylors called Esplanade.
My favorite parts are the solo and duet by the men in the long black costumes. I just
love seeing men dance with such freedom and expressivity. It’s so good to see how they are being released form their dancer stereotype…
Uplifting, joyful and elegant are words that come to mind when I watch these clips over again!
This is a really wonderful company and I look forward to seeing more of their work!
I hope these clips appeal to you to and be sure to Share it with your friends!
