Breathtaking and stunningly beautiful, this solo is danced by the Russian ballerina, Diana Vishneva. This solo is the second section out of a three part work called Picarte, which was initially called F.L.O.W. (For the Love of Women). It was choreographed for her by Moses Pendleton who was inspired for this piece by three artists; Picasso, Caravaggio and Erte. Thus he combined their names to create the new title Picate.
Pendleton, a former member of Pilobolus Dance Company, is the choreographer and artistic director for the New York based company, Momix. It is a company that is known for its playful experimentation with organic forms and images.
Diana Vishneva is an exceptional dancer of international repute who was initially trained at the Vaganova Institute and quickly rose to principal dancer with the Kirov (Maryinsky Theatre). She is also a principal with ABT New York and has performed as guest artist with many companies around the world. And she has toured her own solo program from which the piece in this video is from called Beauty in Motion.
What is so interesting about Ms. Vishneva is that she is very versatile and has danced works of and worked directly with many leading contemporary choreographers of today. She seems to be an artist that is open to all experiences of dance and is always searching for new opportunities and choreographic challenges to work with.
In this video she dances a visually stunning piece on a mirrored ramp. The movement is organic that morphs into and through breathtaking images, sculptures and designs like a kaleidoscope or clouds that constantly shift and morph across the sky.
No one image stands out for me, except for the sheer beauty of her body and it’s mirrored reflection in motion. It is sublime.
This is worth a look!
